The Manchac Greenway
The Manchac Greenway is slowly becoming a reality. The Manchac Greenway Committee is working hard to promote and protect the beautiful corridor of swamp land and communities along the western border of Lake Ponchartrain. The isthmus of wetlands that separate Lake Ponchartrain from Lake Maurepaus on its western boundary are home to some of the most beautiful paddling trips in the state. It is also home to the historic Frenier Village which hosts restaurants with great local cuisine. Not only is the greenway filled with history and natural scenery, but it serves as the only bike-able corridor that would allow a “ring around the lake”. The Manchac Greenway is actively working on developing a well managed biking corridor along Old US 51 which would connect the bike paths along the north and south shore of Lake Ponchartrain and provide new recreational activities to the area.
